My Grandma has had alzheimers disease for a long time. She's been shut up in an old folks home for a few years now, getting fat on food that she'd never ever have eaten by choice, and being given drugs to keep her quiet and easy to manage... She was for most of her life, a vibrant, forward thinking woman who raised ten children, sending most of them on to college, university or trade school. Some of them did very well for themselves and were unquestionably financially able to afford the best of care for her. Instead of arranging for someone to care for her in her home, or one of theirs, they had her move into the local government funded seniors apartment complex, even though she had multiple chemical sensitivities as well as major allergies to cigarette smoke and mold. The place was built on a swamp for goodness sake... It was all downhill from there.
